Hello,
My name is Daniel Calderon and I'm a music student. I am learning to play the Tenor and my private instructor asked me to find the sound I absolutely admire in order for me to study it. I feel that you have by far the best sound I've encountered. Now, I know you were the player on "Good bye pork pie hat" on the Essential Mingus Big band Album (2001). I was wondering if you can tell if the solo's and song were ever transcribed to sheet music (as they are played on the recording). I would appreciate it If you can please direct me to where I can purchase the sheet music and the transcribed solos. Also, if there are any methods, books, recordings, studies, you recommend that have made the most influence on your style and individual sound. I thank you in advance!
Cheers,

Seamus,
You have been such a wonderful influence to me and many other musicians. So much so, that my older sis named her dog after you (She wasn't planning on having kids at the time). You have such a gift, and yet you are a humble person. There are too few like you in the world. What's more? You offer to help others learn and appreciate music as you have learned to. Understand that not only are you doing amazing things for jazz and other genres of music alike, you are also setting a wonderful example for society. As long as you play, you will always have fans.
This is a toast to you and your work.
Best wishes!

Hi Seamus, My name is David Quillen, and I'm a 46 year old baritone saxophonist here in L.A. I first became aware of your playing about ten years ago, on the Mingus "More Than a Play-Along" CD. It blew me away, and I've been a great admirer of your playing and writing ever since. I particularly enjoy your last three recordings, "Way Out Willy", "Live in Italy" and "Bellwether"......seems like those are never out of my CD player!! Your music just gets stronger with each recording, the kind of music that makes me feel more alive from having experienced it, which to me is the hallmark of all great music, regardless of idiom. I think what I like most about your playing and writing is that you know the value of space, when to let the music breathe, but also when to burn!!! And man, your instrumental tone is beautiful, too....Are there any plans to play in L.A. anytime soon? If not, it looks like I may have to plan a New York trip!! Until then, keep blowing, and straight ahead!!!! David Quillen
